Don’t be surprised if your social media accounts these days, especially if you followed news about the 2017 Billboard Music Awards, would be filled with this hot K-pop group, BTS.
BTS, also known as Bangtan Boys, took the 2017 BBMA by storm, as Vogue put it, and brought home the award for Top Social Artist. Thanks to their huge loyal fanbase, BTS won over international superstars Justin Bieber, Selena Gomez, Ariana Grande and Shawn Mendes.
But even before the awarding happened, we were given a glimpse of the boys talking about the BBMA in Good Morning America.
And member Kim Nam Joon, also known as Rap Monster, showed off his fluent English while talking to the interviewer. Did you know that he taught himself to speak the foreign language? That’s just how amazing he is!
Rap Monster said that he learned English by watching the addictive American TV show Friends. He added that when he was a kid, his mom, along with many other Korean moms, then believed that Friends is a good learning guide for the children in speaking English. He ended up watching it all the time and now, with BTS’ further exposure to the American audience, all those hours spent watching the sitcom are totally paying off.

And here’s BTS being interviewed about how they feel about being at the BBMA:
In his acceptance speech, Rap Monster said this during their acceptance speech: “We still cannot believe that we’re standing here on this stage at the Billboard Music Awards. It is so great to see all the artists we admire, and we feel honored to be in this category with all these great artists right in front of us.”
